For todays blog posting we have the SMRC Knockhill meeting 4 of 2014, a little behind with my editing so this one should have been published a while ago. Some background since this is the first time I have posted one of these meetings as a blog posting. I have been going to the SMRC meetings this year as a friend of one of the teams, the Strong Broo Racing team who take part in the Scottish Formula Ford 1600 championship. Its been helping me to improve my motorsports photography as well as a chance to spend time with a great crowd of people. The team is made up Neil Broome driving and Scott Armstrong doing the mechanic and pit crew work
Well thats the usual line-up anyway, for meeting 4 we had a slight change, Scott was away for a family holiday, so for this meet we had two substitute pit crew, Ewan and myself attempting to do the pit crew work so unfortunately my usual position taking photographs suffered a little this time. Hence the lack of lots of images and the quality of some of them I am afraid. The weekend started with some major tinkering by Neil following a discovery of ride height issues. Tim ended up with some last minute changes to height and alignment work to do before testing could properly start. All done in a rush obviously :) As a result testing was an interesting affair with Neil heading out on track with a changed car setup, on a greasy track due to the motorbikes having been out directly before hand and to help add spice to the day the Scottish weather brought a little rain to events. This weekend also saw the arrival of another contender as Phil Hooker hit the track in his new Ray.
Sundays race day arrived and a few more changes were made to the car following advice given to Neil along with lots of thought over night. While Neil made it out for a qualifying session in the sun with a transformed car, I attempted to look like a proper member of pit crew rather than a ratchet monkey and suddenly realised I was actually meant to be taking pictures as well, duh :( Qualifying went well with a 5th position and Neil was heading for his target for the day of reaching the podium for newcomer. A fast and interesting first race was completed with a 5th place result and the first trophy of the day, though race one was eventful with one driver coming home minus a nose cone. Neil enjoyed the visit to the podium and an enthusiatic amount of cheering from his daughter. Race two was no less eventful with a few tangles between Neil and Clay developing during the race and some heated emotions, that though is another story. It was however even after all this another trophy for Neil, so a very good weekend in general and some of the best results of the year so far.
Hopefully I should have some more images in the next posting covering meeting 5, well at least I should have no excuses as I was not doing mechanic duties during that weekend. lets hope after saying that when I look tomorrow night I find some interesting images and I don’t look like an idiot.
